American Repertory Ballet

Spring Season
Dance works by Twyla Tharp, Graham Lustig and Kirk Peterson will be performed on the stage of the World Financial Center Winter Garden, 220 Vesey Street, when the American Repertory Ballet, Graham Lustig artistic director, performs a free dance concert Thursday, April 9, at 12:30pm.
The dances are Twyla Tharp's Baker's Dozen, Graham Lustig's Rhapsodia and Kirk Peterson's Roses and Clover.
Twyla Tharp's Baker's Dozen, created by Ms. Tharp for her own company to piano compositions by Willie "The Lion" Smith and one of her most celebrated creations, opens with relaxed groupings that commence as duets and build to trios, then to quartets and sextets before finally arriving at dances that include the full ensemble of twelve.
With the New York premiere of Rhapsodia, American Repertory Ballet Artistic Director Graham Lustig has choreographed a dance in celebration of his 10th Anniversary as Artistic Director that simply "expresses the joy of dance."
The third piece is a new work still under construction by Kirk Peterson entitled Roses and Clover. It is a pastiche to nostalgic songs as interpreted by the Puppini Sisters, a female trio singing classical and modern songs in the style of the Andrew’s Sisters.
With a mission to convey the joy of dance and present the best in contemporary ballet, American Repertory Ballet has become New Jersey's leading dance company and one of the Garden State's major arts organizations.
"For over two decades, we've presented exceptional music, art, theater and film in the World Financial Center Winter Garden, making it the center of the downtown arts scene," said Debra Simon, Artistic Director of Arts World Financial Center.
Arts World Financial Center is sponsored by American Express, Battery Park City Authority, Brookfield Properties and Merrill Lynch.
